“Would you like a Preacher comic to go with that Beanie Baby?”

The reason we don’t stock beanie babies is because I think that the fall-out when that speculator market crashes will be more harmful than any short term sales gain *and* it doesn’t fit my product mix *and* I don’t want to have to change my shops to be more appropriate for the ten year old girls than they already are. Also, I see a lot of the same folks who were selling the speculator comics doing the Bbabies.

I talked to {redacted} who works for Milo. He said that it took them 9 months to get a Ty account set up. He also said to pay by credit card because to get a terms account took a *LOT* longer. BTW I was told that they were doing hundreds of thousands of dolllars in sales of BBabies in their stores, and it was skewing their numbers and making their managers hit the bonus level without “earning it.”

BTW I saw “tag protectors” on someone’s web site yesterday. Tag protectors? Are we that bad with comic bags?

I *do* think that it will drive some traffic to your stores, especially mom & the kids, but Pat said that the average beanie baby collector was a thirty-year old female. If you don’t push the speculator buttons I don’t think it would be horrible. I’m just not going to do it. :) Probably more because I’ve said for the past year to friends and family to take a baseball bat to me if they saw them in any of the stores than anything else.
