“Show me the comic!”

<<<”I would be more worried about annoying a retailer by continuing to make the same offer with no response from them.  What kind of follow-up is your brother looking for.  I mean, if two free comics being offered isn’t enough to tempt him, what would?”>>>

I don’t assume that all retailers are like me, but if they get half the mail that we do, I’d be willing it would take several mailings just to make an impression. It would be hard to annoy me with junk mail.

My (now ex)wife does all of the book keeping, so I see only half of what comes in each week. I couldn’t imagine paying all the bills *AND* having to go through the promo stuff, too. I easily get a longbox full of mail each month if you neatly stacked all of the letters, catalogs, magazines, postcards, samples, etc..

Most of the promo stuff gets glanced at. I don’t sit back and reflect on each item. :) Most goes in the trash after a cursory glance. If someone sends a printed comic, I read it. If someone sends me art samples, I flip through them. The more professional the package, the more likely I am to actually read it. The less hoops I have to jump through, the better. If I get a “send a business card and a copy of your letterhead for a freebie” note without a postpaid envelope, forget it. If someone includes a business reply card, I’ll usually jot a note. I try to be give honest feedback rather than encourage someone to pour money down the drain.

One company sent me an eight page newsletter - all text - telling me their theories on the direct market and why the industry was in trouble, and how much work went into their book. I don’t care.. Don’t tell me about it….
